Today I will talk to you about a presentation I went to called “talk 20”. Talk 20 is a design conference held at AUB (American University of Beirut) where a variety of 20 designers present there work in a very casual discussion. You can say it is the arts and design version of TedEx. During the presentation Ghita Abi-Hanna, CEO and Jewelry designer for Margherita, really did attract my attention as she talked about an accident that happened with her during the manufacture of a ring she designed. she had started a sample sketch of her new ring collection based on the Fibonacci sequence and she was waiting for the mold her craftsman was preparing. After he finished the sample he told her there has been “un default”; a technical accident or mistake. He showed her the result and instead of feeling disapointment she rejoiced and found inspiration in the small mistake. She asked him to the same model in wax so that she could develop this “accident” idea.
The results were more than flatering to her as she came out with a series of rings double rings, nuckle rings, neclaces, earings and…etc. she hwas able to have a complete jewlery line based on this idea. Accidents happen and so is design.
